I’ve been thinking a lot about the word shalom. Most of us have heard it translated as “peace,” but it’s so much more than that. Shalom is about wholeness, harmony, and actively willing the good of the other. Angel Sigui saw this come to life in a rural Guatemalan village, where a young mother brought her malnourished baby to their makeshift clinic. Watching that little girl regain strength—and seeing her mother’s face light up—was one of the clearest pictures of shalom he's ever experienced. Moments like that are why I believe short-term missions, when done thoughtfully and in partnership with local leaders, can plant seeds of real change. But here’s the truth: you don’t need a passport to live this way. Small, everyday acts of service right where you are can create the same kind of ripple effect. In his latest article, Angel shares what shalom really means, how Jesus modeled it, and how we can practice it both across the world and across the street.
