You’ve probably heard it. Maybe even said it: You are enough. It sounds comforting. Empowering, even. I’ve whispered it to my kids during tough moments. But lately, I’ve been wondering—what if it’s not the whole story? As we approach Pentecost, I’ve been reflecting on what it means that Jesus told his followers to wait—for the Holy Spirit. Not to hustle harder. Not to prove themselves. Just… wait. That tells me something: maybe we’re not meant to be “enough” on our own. In this article, Kim Reisman wrestles with the tension between our culture’s obsession with self-sufficiency and the deeper truth of the Spirit’s presence in our weakness, mess, and longing. She shares a few stories that remind her (and maybe you) why Pentecost still matters so much today. I’d love for you to read it. And as you do, consider this: What if the real freedom isn’t in being enough—but in knowing you don’t have to be?
